1948 Plane Crash Remembered

I remember the plane crash southeast of Temple. I believe it happened in early August 1948. The day was hot. I was a high school freshman. Mike Richardson and I were riding our bikes to football practice when someone told us a plane had crashed southeast of town. We rode to the site, about two hundred yards past the railroad tracks. The bodies had been removed. We saw the impact where one of the airmen had landed in the ditch beside the railroad track. Coach George Woodruff made us run extra laps for being late for football practice. -- Harold
